Multichoice Diski Challenge reaches halfway mark

Glen Salmon, coach of the Bidvest Wits MDC team, tells us his thoughts about the teams' progress thus far:

We keep making the same mistakes.  As a team you can’t keep making those kinds of mistakes. There is still a lot to learn and that is part of the development side that MDC prides itself on. For example, we have the ball possession and we are winning the game then suddenly, last minute, we lose the ball and the opponents score and we lose the game.

Bidvest Wits 9th position on the log is not a true reflection of our team.  We should have at least 6 points more than we do.

The players often lose the ball easily, and it then takes momentum and pace to find it again. Sometimes the players think it is okay to lose the ball in South African Football, and it reflects on the log because possession is the first step to scoring goals and ultimately winning games.

The past weekend we played a fantastic game of football. We need to just convert that into scoring goals and claim points.

Under 17 central defender, Givemore Khupe, is exactly what we want and need. He has done very well. The PSL players who play for us have done well and have had a lot of game time. Bidvest Wits have many young players in the MDC who are playing good football.

The break in December will benefit the boys but perhaps not the league.  It’s something you can never be sure of. A lot of our boys have trained since January with the academy. The break will be good for the players they need it.
