Engen Knockout Challenge pits 16 teams in five regions across South Africa against each other. Participation is either by invitation and/or through qualifying rounds.
The tournament started off with a bang as the young Clever Boys topped group D with 7 points and headed into the quarterfinals to face the reigning champions Stars of Africa. After a gruelling 60 minute encounter, the scoreline was 0-0 and so the winner would be decided by penalties. The penalty shootout put the young and brave Clever Boys composure to the test. After the 24th penalty, the Braamfontein outfit was victorious and heading into the final to face Orlando Pirates.
With the Engen Knockout Challenge title on the line, Ceaser Maphala and his men headed into the final calm and composed. Bidvest Wits opened the scoring from a great free kick on the edge of the area. After 60 minutes and a solid performance from the Bidvest Wits defence, the young Clever Boys were victorious and crowned the 2018 Engen Knockout Champions
Junior was awarded the Midfielder of the Tournament award and Solly was awarded the Player of the tournament award.
Bidvest Wits will now take part in the Engen Champs of Champs tournament. The national championship will see the five regional Engen Under-17 winners, including the host club Supersport United, face off against each other for the right be named the best team in the country.
