The third season of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge kicks off tomorrow, Saturday the 10th of September. The Clever Boys find themselves travelling to Durban for their first fixture of the season. Bidvest Wits take on Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow at 12h00. Glen Salmon the MDC coach shared his thoughts on the season ahead.

“We are excited to kick the season off tomorrow.  We have not prepared with a particular team like we did last year. The reason being is that there are still under 19 players participating in the SAFA Development League and then there are only selected players available from the first team. We are trying to go with younger players this season, and with regards to the first team players, we will use the players that are available on a weekly basis. We will also look at using a few under 17 boys throughout the season.”

Traveling long distances can always be tough on any football team and a home ground advantage is always a winner but Glen Salmon had some interesting insight as to why it does not matter where the young Clever Boys play. “Playing at home or away does not matter – it is good for the younger players to play in front of a crowd. When I spoke to the players I told them that we would like to win but ultimately the mistakes they make are also good. Making mistakes creates learning experiences for the younger players, and we are all about development here at Bidvest Wits.”

“It really motivates the players to see other players coming up from the academy and then advancing into the first team. We really care about our players and the most important thing is to see them advance in football.”
