Bidvest Wits held to a stalemate in title race

Bidvest Wits were held to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night in the Mother City as they took on Cape Town City

With only 8 matches left this season, the Clever Boys got off to a promising start as Phakamani Mahlambi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fifth minute after going down in the box under a challenge from Thamsanqa Mkhize.
The hosts responded well and applied pressure in the first half as they looked for an equaliser but the half time whistle blew with the visitors carrying an advantage.
The pace slowed in the second half of the match. The Bidvest Wits defenders

looked focussed and disciplined and looked comfortable with City in possession.
Defender Tshepo Gumede equalised with his first topflight goal by flicking home a
header from a free-kick delivered by Aubrey Ngoma.

As the clock ticked away both teams pushed hard for a second goal. The match ended with a point each for both teams.

Eric Tinkler’s  men remain top of the log with  46 points from 24 matches – a point ahead of Bidvest Wits although the Clever Boys hold two games in hand.

Bidvest Wits next Absa Premiership encounter will be on Tuesday the 25th of April against Supersport United at the Bidvest Stadium.
