The win sees Stuart Baxter’s side unbeaten in 13 games in all competition. The damage was done by Clayton Daniels and Thabo Mnyamane in the second half after a tightly contested opening stanza.
The Clever Boys started well with Daine Klate threatening as early as the 10th minute when he pushed his shot at close range wide of Riyaad Pieterse.
The second half started in the same vein as the first had ended, with neither side wanting to concede. Tough midfield clashes and alert goalkeeping were the highlights of the start of the second half.
Daniels opened the scoring for Matsatsantsa in the 64th minute following a scramble near the goalmouth.
Hunt’s side pushed hard for an equalizer with United looking to play on the break. They were rewarded when Mnyamane doubled their advantage from a wonderfully struck free-kick.
Bidvest Wits continued to push for a goal until deep in extra time, where Pieterse again displayed great concentration and ability to keep out everything thrown at him.
The loss sees United move level on points with Bidvest Wits, who have two games in hand and a single point behind new log-leaders Cape Town City who drew with Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.
