The sides drew 0 – 0 in the first leg at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg. Bidvest Wits needed an away goal to progress and started the game in Alexandria well, with Smouha playing on the counter.
Ben Motshwari was unlucky to have a hand ball decision go against him after a clearance struck his shoulder which resulted in a penalty for the hosts. Ahmed Mekki sent Money Josephs the wrong way to hand Smouha the lead.
Gavin Hunt rung his changes but the substitutions but failed to turn the tide despite dominating possession and creating several attacking chances.
The result sees Smouha advance while Bidvest Wits will go back to focusing on their domestic title ambitions.
