Clever Boys held at Harry Gwala

Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits played out to a 0-0 draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday evening at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Both sides started well, playing expansive, attacking football but struggled to put together anything menacing in the final third.

The first real chance fell to Rashine De Reuck’s volley from outside the box testing Darren Keet from range, but he was equal to the task.

The Clever Boys were looking good, creating chances from out wide, but Maritzburg were putting in a shift at the back, staying disciplined to repel the waves of attack.

The sides went into the halftime break with the scoreline unchanged despite an entertaining 1st half.

The second half picked up where the first left off; both sides jostling for an advantage.

Mxolisi Macuphu looked to have found a breakthrough after his header across goal looked destined to settle in the back of the net but somehow Richard Ofori managed to reach it and flick it over the bar.

Shortly after being introduced as a substitute Simon Murray found himself at the end of a difficult chance in the box but spooned his effort over the bar.

Similarly, sub Gift Motupa found himself in a fortunate position after a mistake by Ofori, but failed to hit the target from close range.

With the seconds ticking away Maritzburg hit on the counter through Mohau Mokate, who was denied by a brilliant save by Keet.

The draw sees The Team of Choice slip to the bottom of the table while Bidvest Wits remain top of the Absa Premiership log.
