Both sides started well enough and showed good attacking intent, the hosts with the majority of the possession and Pirates playing with pace on the counter.
Tendai Ndoro was brought down by Hlatshwayo in the area early on in the 15th minute, and Oupa Manyisa cooly slotted away the penalty to hand Bucs the lead.
Gavin Hunt’s side looked to bounce back quickly and continued to play positive attacking football.
The pressure told in the 38th minute when a third consecutive corner was met by Buhle Mkhwanazi’s powerful header at the far post with Felipe Ovono unable to keep the ball out.
The sides went into the break deadlocked at 1-1.
Bidvest Wits continued to dominate possession in the second half, with Pirates looking dangerous on the counter attack.
Hlatshwayo seemed to have missed his opportunity in the 70th minutes when Ovono spilled a corner and the Clever Boys skipper missed the ball from 6 yards out.
Five minutes later however, Hlatshwayo punished Ovono when he parried Thabang Monare’s shot into his path, ‘Tyson’ making no mistake this time and in putting the hosts ahead.
The Clever boys advance to the semi-finals, and will know today who their opponents will be in a home and away tie.
