Clever Boys unable to capitalise on their chances

Bidvest Wits lost 3-1 to Lamontville Golden Arrows last night in Johannesburg.

Amr Gamal was picked out brilliantly by Claasen in the seventh minute with a cross but the striker’s header glided over the bar.

Both teams made a quick start to the half in the opening 15 minutes, but the Clever Boys carved out the better chances.

Lamola tapped in at the back post after the ball was thrashed across the face of goal and in the 37th minute Gamal levelled matters in a copy of the Arrows goal at the back post.

Both teams continued to push for a second goal as we went into the half time break.

The Clever Boys were first out on the pitch with the second half soon underway.

In the 55th minute,  Abafana Bes’thende netted their second goal giving them a 2-1 over the hosts.

Gamal had a chance again at the far post in the 77th minute after being picked out by Nazeer Allie with a cross but his header missed slightly wide.

After 86 minutes the Clever Boys were putting a lot of pressure in the Arrows half, threatening mainly on the wings and set-pieces.

However at the death Mahachi broke at pace and played in Sibiya who chipped Josephs to make it 3-1.

Bidvest Wits take on Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday the 16th of September at the FNB Stadium.
