An inspired substitution saw Gabadinho Mhango net twice from the bench putting him among the scorers with Phakamani Mahlambi, James Keene and Thulani Hlatshwayo.
Mahlambi opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a cool finish that slid under the Ajax keeper Jody February.
Captain Hlatshwayo doubled the advantage 11 minutes later with a powerful header from a corner delivered by Mogakolodi Ngele.
The sides went into the break with the hosts leading 2-0 and looking in control.
Mhango put the result out of question when he netted the third in the 59th minute after a fumble from February.
James Keene marked his return to fitness with a goal. He headed home after a great cross from Sifiso Hlanti.
Mhango rounded out the performance in the 78th minute when he bagged his brace and The Clever Boys’ 5th of the evening after an intercepted pass at the back by Pietersen.
The result sees Bidvest Wits move to the top of the log on goal difference, with 28 points from 14 matches. The Braamfontein outfit have two games in hand over Cape Town City.
Ajax are now in 11th spot with 18 points from 16 fixtures.
