MEC Mazibuko congratulates newly crowned PSL Champions, Bidvest Wits FC

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Faith Mazibuko has congratulated the newly crowned Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits FC for winning their maiden league title.

Says MEC Mazibuko:
“On behalf of the people of Gauteng I would like to congratulate -probably one of the oldest clubs if not the oldest in the country- Bidvest Wits, for making history and winning the Absa Premiership title for the first time ever since their formation 96 years ago in 1921.
“It has indeed been a long wait which included their relegation to the first division a few seasons ago, however they came back and went on to became serious contenders for various titles for some time.
“We also want to commend the team for their strong youth development programme which has continuously produced top players for the club and for our football.
“We are not only proud for their achievements as a club but for their contribution in sport and ensuring that the PSL trophy remains within Gauteng-‘The Home of Champions’.
Congratulations and well-done also to the players, managers, and everyone involved in the team’s success and determination to take our football to another level by adding on the list of top clubs in the PSL.
Special congratulations to coach Gavin Hunt for being the third coach to win 4-PSL titles thereby joining the list of the late Ted Dumitru and Gordon Igesund. Harddwork and determination always pays off”, concluded MEC Mazibuko.
