Bidvest Wits Academy team arrive safely in Denmark.
The Bidvest Wits football club Youth Academy landed safely in Copenhagen yesterday. The youngsters will be in Brondby for sixteen days to participate in two tournaments; the Lyngby Cup and the Brondby Cup. They have been invited by Brondby I.F. as part of an annual visit to Denmark.
The team departed from OR Tambo International airport on Monday evening in high spirits.
It’s our second year as Bidvest Wits going to Denmark, but for most of our boys it will be their first time. The boys are excited, I’m also excited as a coach as I get to learn from other coaches on how things are done
said Ashley Makhanya, Bidvest Wits under 18 head coach.
Last year (2011) two of the boys; Lerotoli Manala and Siphosihle Mtule were noticed at the Brondby tournament and were invited to join the club for six months, where they trained with the team and played matches. Currently Jullian De Freitas is on exchange with the Brondby team, this relationship now is reaping great rewards for both clubs.
Ashley said “it’s a great honour obviously as a coach to see your players being recognized, it shows that there is something right you are doing”.
The boys lost in the finals of the tournament in 2011, and the Ashley Makhanya hopes to bring back the trophy to South Africa in 2012.
With three of the Bidvest Wits academy boys Jullian Defreitas, Lebogang Phiri and Ncwadi Saki being selected to travel with Brondby under 19 for a two day international tournament in Germany on the 27th July. It seems that South Africa has a lot to offer the global football market.
We wish them all the best, and may they fly the flag of the club and South Africa high in Denmark and Germany.
Clever Boys Nakanjani…
