Bidvest Wits and Ajax play to a tie

Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town played to a 1-1 draw at the Bidvest Stadium in an Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night.

Thembinkosi Fanteni had given the visitors an early lead but Ugandan international defender Timothy Batabaire’s second half strike earned the Clever Boys a point.

Ten minutes into the match, the visitors were the first side to open the scoring when from 12-yards out Thembinkosi Fanteni’s right-footed shot went into bottom-left side of the of goal to hand the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The men from the Cape were looking to add to their lead in the 18th minute when Lebogang Manyama’s free kick from left wing was headed by Fanteni but his effort missed to the left.

Two minutes later Roger De Sa’s Wits side were looking to get into the game and had a chance when midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi’s left-footed shot from 25-yards out on the wing went over the bar.

When the second half commenced the Clever Boys were looking to get back into the match. In the 49th minute Wits substitute Miguel Timms had a right-footed shot from 30 yards that went over the bar.

But De Sa’s young side would finally equalise in the 59th minute. An in-swinging corner from right by-line taken by Asive Langwe saw Batabaire drill a right-footed shot into the bottom corner from 12-yards out, 1-1.
