Bidvest Wits scores big at the MTN8

Bidvest Wits beat the 2015/16 league winner Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 on Saturday in the MTN8 Final played at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. The Clever Boys have been in desperate search of silverware since their last trophy was won in 2010 for the Nedbank Cup.

Daine Klate received the Man of the Match award and gave all his praise to Coach Gavin Hunt:

“If anyone deserves man of the match it’s our coach. He has been unbelievable since he came to Bidvest Wits. We came out here and played with no fear. The coach is always spot on, and when we give it our all and follow his direction, we do exceptionally well. I’m just very happy for the brand Bidvest Wits. The most important thing for me is the badge on the front of the jersey. I’m very happy that I contributed to the success of the team today.”

Coach Gavin Hunt, who has achieved many great things at his previous clubs, believes MTN8 win is only the beginning for Bidvest Wits.

“We knew in the second half, they would make a change and they went to three at the back and for Pelembe, at his age, to play at right-back, he was fantastic. The whole team was magnificent. It’s a great occasion for the club, but it’s only the start. This team has still got a lot to offer, obviously, we haven’t played a lot in the last couple of weeks, but what better way to finish before we have the break.”

In the change room, Coach said, “Boys, this is the match we have been waiting for and we are going to go out there and give it our all.”

Bidvest Wits captain Thulani Hlatshwayo is pleased with his team’s victory on Saturday and acknowledged the team’s great performance in the final:

“We played well as a team. We knew what kind of team they are and we made sure we performed on the day. We had been practicing the whole week and fortunately the cancelled game against Pirates gave us a good opportunity to prepare well for the final. I thought we were very good and deserved our win.”
