Bidvest Wits vs Black Leopards – Peter Mokaba Stadium

Black Leopards will go in search of a win that could lift them out of the danger zone at the bottom of the Absa Premiership when they host Bidvest Wits. The match takes place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 15h30.

Leopards find themselves second-from-bottom on the log standings, two-points ahead of Jomo Cosmos but within range of both Santos and Platinum Stars, who are just one and two points ahead respectively.

Lidoda Duvha’s inconsistency has been a problem this season, and is best demonstrated by their last three results in the league: a 1-0 win over AmaZulu, 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos and 4-1 defeat to Moroka Swallows earlier this month.

If Leopards want to lift themselves away from the lower reaches of the league, then the first thing they need to do is improve on their home form. In six matches in Polokwane they have claimed just one win and suffered three defeats – an improvement on that record needs to start this weekend against Bidvest Wits.

As for the Clever Boys, they come into the game somewhat stung by their 3-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the final of the Telkom Knockout last weekend. Their league form, however, has been solid of late: two wins and two draws from their last four matches, the most recent of which was 2-2 at home to Golden Arrows.

Head-to-head stats favour Bidvest Wits when it comes to this clash’s history, but not by much. The Johannesburg team has six wins compared to Leopards’ four in 12 league matches between the teams since 2001/02.

In fact, Lidoda Duvha’s home record against Wits is a good one: three wins and just one defeat from six matches in Limpopo suggests that the visitors will have it tough on Sunday. However, the teams have not met in any league games since 2007/08 – in that campaign each side won their home fixture, 2-1 for Wits and 1-0 for Leopards.
