Chapman: Bafana an indescribable feeling

Bidvest Wits star Ryan Chapman says reaching his dream of playing for Bafana Bafana is “indescribable” and he hopes to get many more call-ups.

The 24-year-old striker’s impressive displays this season saw him earn his first call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad when coach Pitso Mosimane announced his team for three friendly internationals in January.

“Making my debut was an indescribable feeling,” said Chapman about his second half cameo against Equatorial Guinea recently.

The ‘Clever Boy’ came on as a second half substitute alongside Jomo Cosmos’ Siyabonga Nontshinga on Friday evening as Bafana drew 0-0 with the African Nations Cup joint hosts.

The fresh faced pair changed the game as more intensity was immediately added.

“For me, I would just like to represent my country again, be it as a starter or coming on as a substitute,” Chapman told kickOff.com.

“I think if I can be consistent for Wits, then I can receive many more call-ups and anything then could be possible.”

Having had his first taste on the international stage, Chapman noted there is little difference at international level to club level, but noted the biggest challenge was in working with new teammates.

“There isn’t much of a difference between the two camps in terms of moods as both have a very relaxed atmosphere. However, it is a challenge working with new players but you just have to apply yourself as best as you can.”

South Africa play Zambia on January 11 at Rand Stadium before their final training game against Ghana in Rustenburg on January 15.
