Bidvest Wits were held to a 2-2 draw by Highlands Park in topsy-turvy Absa Premiership clash at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Clever Boys took the lead in the second half following the Lions of the North’s opener, but would drop two valuable points courtesy of a late Highlands penalty.
Highlands were the better team in the early exchanges and opened the scoring through Mothobi Mvala in the 27th minute. The Highlands skipper left with the easy task of nodding home at the back post following an inch-perfect Luckyboy Mokoena cross.
Wits pulled level on the cusp of half-time as Haashim Domingo rifled the ball home from the edge of the area with virtually the final kick before the break. The midfielder showing superb technique after being picked out by Lorenzo Gordinho.
The hosts took a deserved lead five minutes after the interval as Thulani Hlatshwayo slid the ball under the onrushing Marlon Heugh from an acute angle.
And Gavin Hunt’s troops looked well on their way to all three points, but the visitors were awarded a late penalty after the Bidvest Wits skipper brought down Peter Shalulile inside the area. The Namibian duly dusted himself off powered the ball into the roof of the net.
Wits pushed forward in the closing stages, but the visitors would hold firm for a share of the spoils.
