Clever Boys face unbeaten Maritzburg

Bidvest Wits will travel to unbeaten Maritzburg United for an Absa Premiership match at their fortress of a home ground, Harry Gwala Stadium, on Friday night.

Kick off is at 8pm on Friday, 28 September 2012.

Maritzburg extended their unbeaten run to five matches this season when they drew 2-2 away to Black Leopards on Tuesday night.

The Team of Choice are placed third on the Absa Premiership log with nine points from five matches and will present a challenge for Antonio Lopez Habas’ travelling team. Bidvest Wits suffered their first home defeat of the season in their last outing, going down 3-1 to in-form log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, so they will want to bounce back strong against Ernst Middendorp’s men.

The Johannesburg team have yet to win on the road this term, having recorded a 2-0 loss at Free State Stars and a 1-1 draw at Chippa United. Bidvest Wits are placed 12th on the Absa Premiership log with five points from as many matches.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Wits have met in 10 league matches since 2006/07.

Six of the 10 encounters have ended in draws, while each side has claimed two wins against the other.

Maritzburg are unbeaten at home to Wits, having recorded one win and four draws from five matches in KwaZulu-Natal.

Last season both encounters between the teams ended in draws: 2-2 in Pietermaritzburg and 0-0 in the return game in Johannesburg.
