Bidvest Wits succumbed to a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership clash at Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein on Wednesday evening.
Thabiso Kutumela scored the only goal of the game as the Team of Choice move level on 30 points with the Clever Boys, with the two team occupying fifth and sixth place respectively on the log standings.
Maritzburg opened the scoring in the 44th minute of the clash. Tebogo Tlolane found his teammate with a perfectly weighted through ball and Kutumela made no mistake; firing a low shot past the onrushing Ricardo Goss.
The hosts went in search of an immediate response and almost got one through Terrence Dzvukamanja, but he was brilliantly denied by Richard Ofori in the Maritzburg goal.
Gavin Hunt introduced both Deon Hotto and Gift Motupa following half-time break and the latter would be on the end of Wits’ best chance with 84 minutes on the clock, but having lost his marker he could only succeed in guiding his header attempt inches wide of goal.
Motupa had a further chance in added time, but Ofori made another good save to keep out his rasping shot as the visitors duly held on for all three points.
