Clever Boys look for big impact on domestic return

Bidvest Wits will look to make a big impact on their return to domestic football when they host Black Leopards in an Absa Premiership clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Thursday 6 February 2020.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm CAT.

Wits, who finished off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign at home to Malian side Djoliba AC this past Sunday evening, were last in domestic action on January 18, suffering their first away defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 away to Cape Town City.

The Clever Boys have claimed 13 points from seven home matches this season – a record manager Gavin Hunt will be looking to improve, starting with his clash against the Limpopo visitors.

Leopards, meanwhile, broke a seven-game winless streak in the league when they defeated Stellenbosch 2-1 at home on February 2, thanks to goals from Mwape Musonda and Thabo Matlaba.

Lidoda Duvha, however, have claimed just five points from nine away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.

In head-to-head stats, Leopards and Wits have met in 18 league matches since 2000/01. The Clever Boys have claimed 10 wins compared to four for Lidoda Duvha, while four games have been drawn.

The Johannesburg side has claimed six wins from nine home matches in the rivalry, suffering just one defeat in the process.

Wits completed a league ‘double’ over Leopards last season, winning 1-0 in Thohoyandou in December 2018 and 3-1 at home in Johannesburg in April 2019, with goals from Simon Murray, Deon Hotto and Elias Pelembe.

The Clever Boys are unbeaten in their last six league matches against Lidoda Duvha.
