CLEVER BOYS PROGRESS TO THE NEDBANK CUP QF

Bidvest Wits booked their place in the 2019 Nedbank Cup quarterfinals with a win away to Black Leopards.

Bidvest Wits booked their place in the 2019 Nedbank Cup quarterfinals with a win away to Black Leopards, concluding the round of 16 in dramatic fashion.

The Clever Boys were put under pressure early on by the home side, but with resolute defending and hard-work from the front men, Wits managed to take control of the match.

Gift Motupa bolted into the box from way out to get on the end of a pin-point cross from Elias Pelembe to put Wits in the lead.

Gavin Hunt’s men slowed the tempo of the game and kept the ball for long periods of time, frustrating the hosts.

Wits were able to maintain their lead until the 80thminute when Mwape Musonda nodded a cross to the far post to draw level.

The match was forced into 30 minutes of extra time where neither side were able to capitalise which saw the match go to a penalty shootout.

Robyn Johannes slotted the first penalty, followed by Keegan Ritchie and then Elias Pelembe. Ricardo Goss showed excellent heroics to save two penalties.
