Bidvest Wits reclaimed their spot on top of the Absa Premiership standings as the Clever Boys beat Baroka FC 2-1 in their own backyard.
The Clever Boys came out the blocks firing with Lehlohonolo Majoro sending an early attempt into the side-netting, and soon after making the Baroka goalkeeper, Chipazeze work again to keep the scores level.
Gavin Hunt’s men continued to turn the screws throughout the first half and found themselves ahead just seconds before the halftime whistle. Majoro finished from close range, after Deon Hotto provided him with a clever headed assist.
The second half started exactly as the first half ended as the Clever Boys doubled their lead through Hotto, who latched onto a perfectly weighted cross from Elias Pelembe and finished with expert precision.
Baroka started finding their way into the match, but Darren Keet was determined to keep the hosts at bay, making a number of fine saves.
Baroka found a consolation goal as Sodi headed past Keet in the 80th minute following a pin-point cross by Thabiso Semenya.
Bidvest Wits were dealt another blow late in the match as captain Thulani Hlatshwayo was forced off the field with a nasty head injury – Hunt had already made all three of his substitutions, forcing his side to see out the match with 10 men.
The win lifts Bidvest Wits back to the summit of the Absa Premiership standings with one more match to play in 2018.
