Absa Premiership log leaders Bidvest Wits moved five points clear of second-place Orlando Pirates following a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Bidvest Stadium.
The hosts made a telling start to the encounter and were unlucky not to take the lead when Thulani Hlatshwayo rattled the post with a towering header inside the opening 10 minutes. The Clever Boys continued to plug away at the visitors, but were unable to capitalize.
Head coach Gavin Hunt switched winger Elias Pelembe for Gabadinho Mhango at the start of the second half, who had an immediate impact on the match.
Ricard Ofori produced a couple important saves for the visitors to deny the likes Cole Alexander and Deon Hotto in their attempts to break the deadlock.
Hunt introduced Lehlohonolo Majoro soon after a substitution which seemingly proved decisive as Majoro latched onto a Pelembe through-ball, rounding Ofori to hand Wits the lead.
Majoro was handed a chance to bag a brace when Wits were awarded a penalty in the 87thminute, however the striker saw his spot-kick saved by Ofori.
The Clever Boys secured another victory at home, maintaining their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership.
