Bidvest Wits suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs at the Bidvest Stadium.

Bidvest Wits lost the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership log, with a 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs – In a match that was overshadowed by a controversial red card to Robyn Johannes in the 93rdminute.

A tightly contested first half, saw both teams cancel each other out with chances few and far between. The first half was stricken with cynical fouls by both sides, breaking the momentum of the game.

Wits had chances through S’fiso Hlanti and Deon Hotto, while Chiefs’ Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro tried to put Amakhosi in the lead.

Castro broke the deadlock for Chiefs two minutes before the hour-mark with a finish at the near post to hand Chiefs the lead. Pule Ekstein doubled their lead with another finish at the near post.

The Clever Boys had chances of their own to find a way back into the match through Hotto, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Cole Alexander, but the Kaizer Chiefs defence managed to escape without any damage.

Robyn Johannes was controversially shown two yellow cards, following a red card in the 93rdminute by referee Victor Gomes for a foul on Bernard Parker. The match ended soon after, but the Clever Boys still occupy first place on the log, two points above Orlando Pirates.
