Bidvest Wits secured a 1-0 win over Black Leopards in their Absa Premiership clash at the Thohoyandou Stadium – The winning margin doesn’t do justice to Wit’s performance on the night.
The Clever Boys got out of the starting blocks well against Leopards, where they should’ve been ahead as early as the 15thminute. The Clever Boys created numerous chances in the opening half, but were unable to find an opening goal. A first half performance labelled by head coach Gavin Hunt as ‘the best he’s seen this season.’
Gift Motupa and Cole Alexander caused problems for the Leopards defence with their movement and energy to get into the box. Simone Murray was also an ever-present threat, getting ahead of the Leopards defenders when balls arrived in the box.
The second half saw much of the same as Wits continued to create chances at will. Gavin Hunt then opted for a different approach by introducing Lehlohonolo Majoro in place of Murray and Gabadinho Mhango in place of Motupa.
A goal was imminent with Wits continuing to pile the pressure on Leopards. Substitute Mhango arrived in the box right on time to head home and hand the Clever Boys a well-deserved lead.
Wits’ dominance and persistence paid off, claiming a vital win in Thohoyandou.
