Game Time for the Braamfontein Outfit

Bidvest Wits have travelled to Nelspruit for a week of intense training before the second half of the season kicks off. Coach Gavin Hunt always reminds us that one important aspect of every team is to actually get game time under their belt. This helps the technical staff as well as the players see which combinations work and which need more work. The cherry topper to the week filled with training and all things Bidvest Wits is the Mbombela Football Spectacular.

There are 4 teams participating in the Cup. Bidvest Wits, Supersport United, Baroka FC and Mbombela United. The  Spectacular Cup will be played at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday the 21st of January with the first match set to kick off at 09h00. Both the PSL and NFD are currently on recess due to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, which under way in Gabon.

The first edition of the cup was last hosted in 2015. Defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces won the inaugural event after coming from behind to draw 1-1 and then beat Platinum Stars 4-1 in penalties. The University of Pretoria and Bidvest Wits were the other two participants in 2015.

Mthuthuzeli Qamba of Mbombela Stadium management said due to the selling of Mpumalanga Black Aces to Cape Town City, they didn’t manage to host the tournament last season.

Tickets for the cup are available at Computicket at a price of R40 for adults and R10 for children between the age of two to 12.
