The Bidvest Wits MultiChoice Diski Challenge coach Glen Salmon answered a few questions about how the 2018/19 MDC season transpired.
What were your main objectives for the 2018/19 MDC season?
Well as always our goal is with the young group to push to finish as high as possible as we have had a decent MDC run, but we didn’t end up where we should have in the league, so we owe ourselves a better season in 2019/20.
What do you make of where your team ended on the log?
I am not happy with where we ended up as we left about 7 points out there and if we had taken them, we should have been at least in the top three. All in all we know we could have achieved more.
Which players from your team would you recommend to coach Gavin Hunt for next season?
We have Solly Khunyedi who has recently moved up but we have a few more who can benefit by moving up like Edson Khumalo and Jenovan September. I feel like they are ready to step up and be part of the first team.
What were some of the challenges you faced during the 2018/19 season?
The main challenges were to get the boys to take everything we taught them over the last season and to implement them in games and to take their own initiatives in matches.
What are some of the changes you would like to see in the team & in the league?
Changes in my team are just to see the boys all play at a consistent level more regularly. With regards to the league, possibly more games would be better for the boys’ development. Perhaps it’s time for the league to evolve to two rounds of home and away matches like the PSL currently is.
