It was a game of two halves as Bidvest Wits lost 2-0 to AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday evening with thunder showers throughout the 90 minutes.
Although the Clever Boys started well, Darren Keet was called into action early on making one-on-one save to deny Bonbikosi Ntuli from opening the scoring.
A tight first half ended goalless but chances went unanswered with Gift Motupa and Fagrie Lakay lead the attacking lines for Gavin Hunt.
Ntuli broke the deadlock for AmaZulu three minutes after the break with a side-footed finish to hand the hosts the lead.
Robyn Johannes nearly levelled matters for Wits on the hour-mark with a downward header at the back post, his effort bounced agonizingly close but over to the crossbar.
Ovidy Karuru doubled the lead at the far post after being played in, as the Clever Boys pushed for an equalizing goal.
Wits suffered a further blow after captain Thulani Hlatshwayo received a second yellow card in the last minute and was sent off.
It was a tough evening at the King Zwelithini Stadium as Bidvest Wits lost. 2-0 in the end and will be without skipper Hlatshwayo for the next match.
