Koapeng wants to win League title
Bidvest Wits’ 19-year-old striker Letsie Koapeng talks about his plans for the season and how he wants to move up the ranks.
What are your goals for the 2012/13 season?
I honestly want to win the league. Then if not I want to contest for it. I want to do well as well and find myself as a regular in the team.
As a graduate of the Bidvest Wits Academy how does it make you feel to have all these experienced players that have been signed in the off season?
I don’t want to take anything away from the players that have been brought in to strengthen the team. I personally think that I have got my game to concentrate on and not worry about what happens off the pitch.
In either case, just like it happened when I was with the development side, there is always someone behind you trying to get your spot in the team. So it is just constant competition so it doesn’t really bother me.
Have the likes of Aaron Mokoena and Mbulelo Mabizela given you some advice on how to grow as a young footballer?
Oh yes they have! They have given not only just me but the other young players some quality advice, and it is just a matter of us taking it to the heart and the head and implicating it.
You were not selected to play for the South Africa under-20 side against Botswana, do you hope to get back into the squad?
Unfortunately I can’t play for them because I will be turning 20 in December and the coach said there is no use for me to be there because he wants to plan for the future.
But I have been with under-23s twice before and it is going well. I am currently playing off the bench, but I am confident I will make my way up the team gradually.
