Our latest acquisition, Fagrie Lakay is in line to make his official debut in this weekend’s Absa Premiership encounter away to Highlands Park. The 21-year-old forward is excited at the prospect of joining potential league champions and playing under a coach he’s admired for many years.
“As a young player, it’s a good feeling to join a club like Wits. They won the league recently and also won a few more trophies. Now, the club stands a good chance of winning the league again. Every player wants to be part of a team that’s competing for trophies consistently.
“Wits have been doing very well this season. The team has been getting good results, credit to both the players and the technical team for that. As a player, this is a good environment for me to come into.”
“Coach Gavin is a very good coach. I have always looked up to him and the success he’s had as a coach. He knows how to motivate his players and get the best out of them. I’m looking forward to working with him and learning from him.”
As for Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt, he’s extremely happy to have a player with the talent and versatility Lakay offers and sees him contributing massively now as well as in the seasons ahead.
“Fagrie is a very versatile player, he can play in any attacking position. He’s joined us at the right age, because he has a lot of talent which hasn’t been fulfilled properly yet. He’s certainly got goals in him, that’s for sure. This is also an opportunity for us to get a player in now who can help us with our current season, but also who can benefit the team for seasons to come.”
Bidvest Wits travel to Makhulong Stadium to take on Highlands Park at 15:30 tomorrow afternoon.
