A spectacular goalkeeping performance from Ricardo Goss saw a ten-man Bidvest Wits earn a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in an Absa Premiership match at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday night.
The Clever Boys had their backs against the wall from the 57th minute men when they were reduced to ten men following the sending off Buhle Mkhwanazi after second yellow card.
Goss, though, was in superb form between the sticks. The young goalkeeper made numerous saves to earn Wits a point on the night as they sit third on the league table, eight points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs but with two games in hand.
The first half started a little slowly and neither side created any significant chances in front of goal.
In fact, the only real chance came in the 43rd minute when a pin-point left-wing cross from Teboga Langerman found Lebohang Maboe unmarked at the back post, but his ten-yard header was brilliantly tipped around the post by Goss.
The half ended goalless.
The Clever Boys were the first to fashion a scoring opportunity in the second half when Solly Khunyedi let fly from the edge of the box in the 53rd minute, but his stinging effort went inches wide of the target.
Just after the hour mark Sibusiso Vilakazi came close to scoring when the striker found space inside the box, yet his shot from 12-yards out struck the woodwork.
Vilakazi should have given the Brazilians the lead in the 82nd minute when a swift passing move saw him unmarked ten-yards out, but again he was superbly denied from close range by Goss.
Sundowns continued to push forward in the final ten minutes, but Wits defended stoutly to see the match end 0-0.
