We want the whole thing: Bidvest Wits instill a winning culture

We sat down with Jose Ferreira, CEO at Bidvest Wits to discuss the 2016/17 season and the club’s MTN8 and Absa Premiership win.

Bidvest Wits went into the 2016/17 season with a clear mandate: to win. “At the start of the season we came out publicly to say that we want to really compete and bring our A game to the pitch. The team went into each match with that vision and mentality, and we can clearly see that on the final logs, said Jose.

A large part of team dynamics starts with great leadership, and under the guidance and expertise of Coach Gavin Hunt the Clever Boys have gone from strength to strength. “Gavin Hunt is one of, if not the best, coach in the country – that’s why we brought him in. We believed he could play a meaningful role in our vision for the team, and he has done exactly that. Gavin is definitely the coach that is going to be taking us forward and hopefully see us adding more trophies to the cabinet,” continued Jose.

The Clever Boys have steadily been progressing to cement their place as serious contenders in South African football. After four seasons where the club was seen in the top three, it is a deeply emotional experience to see them take home two titles in the 2016/17 season.

“Of the league titles I have won with previous clubs, this is definitely the one I am most proud of. Bidvest Wits is the oldest club in South Africa and to be a part of their vision and see it come to fruition in the first two title wins is an incredible feeling. We are thrilled and immensely proud of the team’s performance. Going forward, we will be looking to keep up the momentum and continue to give our supporters the kind of football they associate with the Club,” concluded Jose.
