Bidvest Wits have a spring in their step

The Clever Boys departed by bus this morning to Nelspruit for an intense 5-day camp.

Some of the activities that the players will partake in are gym sessions, training, friendly matches and of course team meetings.
One of the most important things on Coach Gavin Hunts agenda is to bring the team together and focus on fitness and match readiness.
There are two transfer windows in every season and often players that are signed in the August transfer window miss the new season camp. This camp will give players signed in the last transfer window an opportunity to form even deeper bonds with their teammates, which is an important aspect for any team.
In January, everyone is concerned with having picked up some holiday weight, but this was not the case for the Braamfontein outfit.
“The players have come back in pretty good shape, and we obviously have the opportunity to go on a camp now because of AFCON. We almost have a second phase of pre-season but it will not be as intense or as long.  It gives the team an opportunity to get away for a week, away from normal training and rebuild relationships and get the players flying again before the start of the season.” Paul Johnstone
Bidvest Wits will partake in a small round robin tournament against Baroka FC, Mbombela United and Supersport United on Saturday the 21st of January at Mbombela Stadium.
“The break came at a good time.  We were not playing well and everyone looked a bit lacklustre. As a team, we most certainly are not where we wanted to be. The team went away and had a good break and everyone has come back in very good spirits. We have had a successful first week back and we will obviously push on from the camp. It is important for us to get games under our belt, get existing combinations right, and work on new combinations.” Paul Johnstone
The break has come at a fantastic time for us and now we can use the time to get back to what we were doing in the first couple of months of the season. There are scenarios where teams have entered the second half of the season like a completely different team in form of their attitude and mentality and we are certainly looking to change that.  We obviously don’t want that to creep in. We have to make sure that we have the players prepared, focused mentally and physically. We have to make sure that we have our stall set up by the time February comes and we take on Orlando Pirates on the 3rd of February.” Paul Johnstone
